Alan has extensive experience prosecuting and defending all types of crime. He has particular experience in cases involving serious sexual allegations, serious violence and complex fraud, although he has prosecuted or defended in a very wide range of criminal cases, including high profile murder cases, multi handed drugs conspiracies and organized professional robberies.
Sexual offences: Alan is on the CPS Specialist Rape Panel. He has acted in numerous cases of historic allegations of sexual crimes, including cases dating back half a century or more; cases involving allegations made by multiple complainants, cases of joint enterprise sexual offences; familial sexual abuse; cases involving vulnerable witnesses and complex, multi-handed trials involving allegations of sexual abuse and torture. He has extensive experience of the sensitive issues arising in such cases, and he has acted for the prosecution, defence and local authority social services departments in cases where difficult disclosure issues have arisen.
Fraud and financial crime: Alan has acted in a number of serious cases including, recently, as prosecution junior counsel in a complex cyber fraud trial at the Central Criminal Court.
Alan’s experience encompasses cases of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, cases involving catastrophic injuries, multi-handed violent disorder, large scale drugs supply conspiracies, armed robbery of commercial premises, organized professional robbery of country houses, robberies investigated by the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad, road traffic offences and crime related appellate work.
Alan has acted in cases involving a wide range of technical and forensic issues, including computer crime, blood spatter pattern analysis, mobile phone cell site analysis and complex medical and scientific evidence.
